Who decides what the meaningful cultural connections are?

This is one of the most essential questions we can ask ourselves as educators. As educators we make all the decisions in the classroom. We create the curriculum taught in our classroom, we decide how our classroom is managed, we decide how we want our students to act and we think we also need to decide what are the meaningful cultural connections. As educators we need to come to a realization that our students should be driving our teaching. They should especially be in charge of identifying the meaningful cultural connections. Each students comes from different backgrounds and we, as educators, should not decide what is meaningful and what is not. The sooner we come to this realization the sooner our students will benefit.

Thank you for posing crucial questions that we should be asking ourselves constantly.
