Tucci’s food and travel series, Searching for Italy, is a brief digital gateway to a country full of amazing food and culture. I couldn’t ask more when I came across a trip and food show, in addition to Stanley Tucci.

The 2 season series was premiered on February 14th, 2021, on CNN. The celebrated actor, Nigel on The Devil Wears Prada, and Academy Award-nominee — Stanley Tucci — explores throughout his mother country, to dive deeply into its regional cuisines and specialties.

“I’m Italian on both sides”, a convincing opening line on each episode.

The perfect combination of subjects, food and travel show undoubtedly offers new experiences to the viewers.

The first season covers 6 regions, from Naples and Amalfi Coast to Sicily. Soft pizza bread along with fresh San Marzano tomatoes and creamy mozzarella, each shoot was perfectly captured and I had to gulp a glass of water to neutralize my mind from scorching enviousness.

Meat and seafood and sinful butter and cheese. Italy is a sanctuary for fresh ingredients. Dishes are served in various ways; home cook, eatery, and fancy-Michelin star restaurant. They relish to celebrate the tasty recipes.

The story of local chefs, farmers, and masters encode the reasons subsequent to Tucci’s inquiries into why and how a great food is done. The fusion of history, culture, and politics played a significant part in the culinary world.

The political power is destined for gaining a full control around food production, distribution, and consumption. It is ineffable to peek at its power. Working-class women once had to fight back to retrieve pasta from the fascists.

“Oh my God,” as he devours Tagliatelle alla Bolognese.

The next season made stops in 8 regions, making it longer than the previous one. From homely and hearty dish in Umbria, harsh-shocking blue ocean of Sardinia, to the culinary mecca of London.

After the Romans and the Middle East influences, the Northern city with full of innovations and rich in traditions becomes a port for intercultural exchange from the immigrants.

Egyptians, Tunisians, Ugandans. It feels like they’re all creating a quintessential mix of spices and other ingredients in one plate.

Reportedly, season 2 is the last terminal for the magical odyssey. Tucci has confirmed while appearing in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that CNN has canceled all of their original programs.

I’m dissatisfied to notice that this witty and sublime and raw Bourdain-y gastronomy documentary ended unpleasantly. Leaving uncompleted traces in the Italy peninsula, like a cul-de-sac in a story.
