Installing Kali Linux on Windows machine
I’ve been following online tutorials on whitehat hacking and this is my first post to document what I’ve learnt.
So, I’ll start with installing Kali Linux on a Windows machine.
First, you need to install VirtualBox here. Download both the platform packages for Window hosts and VirtualBox Extension Pack.
Download the Kali Linux image here. Choose either 32 or 64 bit depending on your machine.
Now, you can import the downloaded Kali Linux image using VirtualBox. Open VirtualBox and click on Import button. Then, browse to the location where you downloaded the image earlier. Proceed with the installation wizard, you can opt to change the default settings. Click Import. Below is screenshot of the default settings.
Once import complete, you can go to VirtualBox. Select the VM and click on the Start button. Login using the default credentials (username: root, password: toor).
Enjoy your new VM! Next, I’ll write a post on using the footprinting tools that comes with your new VM!
