5 Ways to Change Your Life without Leaving Your Bedroom
You have to be honest you have been there… dreaming of what your life could be like if you made that business dream a reality but knowing you would never know where to start, so you daydream some more, and that dream becomes an even more distant concept never to be seen or heard from again. Maybe your imagination has gone even further with dreams of starring in a movie or writing a bestselling novel. Too many people don’t know where to start with their goals, so they don’t start at all. A dream can become a reality if it is taken on in an obtainable way. In this article I will discuss five ways to jumpstart your dreams without ever leaving your bedroom.
1. Research
The best way to achieve a goal is to find out how someone else achieved it. Mirroring the practices of a young Steve Jobs or Elon Musk could place you in the running for something life changing. Finding out how a role model achieved their goals and modeling their behavior can put you on the fast track for success. An article written by Adam Sicinski for the IQMatrix puts extra weight on the details explaining that you should research the “habits” “interests” and “internal thinking patterns” of someone who has met your goals because it will help you, “break out of old patterns of behavior and habits-of-mind, thereby stepping into a new world filled with unique opportunities, perspectives, and possibilities.” This is important because by setting aside that part of you that is less ambitious and putting yourself in the shoes of someone that has already reached your goal you make it more probable that you will reach it too.
Secondly, research can help you find out what you ACTUALLY want to do. You may have dreams of becoming a doctor, but after researching you find that due to your love of animals a life as a veterinarian would be more fulfilling. Knowing what it takes to fulfill your goals will put those goals into a better perspective. Plus, if a goal requires schooling or training it is best to start early.
2. Sleeping
Yes, you read that right. Sleeping can actually improve your functionality and make it easier to reach your goals when you are awake. According to an article written by Bernard K. Haynes for Lead to Impact, “Research has found that sleep positively affects your fine motor skills, physical reflexes and your judgement.” All of these aspects of your mental and physical wellbeing have an impact on whether or not you will be able to achieve day-to-day goals. So, because sleep positively impacts your ability to achieve your goals it is important that you get at least eight hours a night and in turn organize your schedule to prioritize rest and your body’s rejuvenation. Your goals will thank you later.
3. Read A Book
Imagining you are somewhere else can actually help change your life from the comfort of a comforter. Reading and reading comprehension have shown to be an indicator of academic and future success. In an article from Huffpost contributor Jerry Diakiw states, “One of the least expected predictors of life success is one’s reading ability in primary school. … Increasingly, new research across many countries is showing that the best predictor of future education achievement and life success is reading ability — or, more significantly, being an engaged reader.” This proves that reading and engagement are important, but you don’t have to start as early as primary school. Pick up a book from your local library or go book shopping on Amazon and find something that interests you, maybe even a How-To Book for achieving your goals. There are many books out there written by self-proclaimed achievers that claim to teach you how to get where you want to be. Pick one up and see what’s inside.
4. Know How Hard You Will Work
No goal worth achieving is easy. You will hit rocky roads, you will want to quit, but you have to be determined in order to be a true achiever. Reading the stories of others that have achieved your goals, you may realize they did not all start off instantly successful. They worked through adversity, trial, tribulation, and their own laziness to get where they ended up and they are probably still working to maintain their goals. If you go into a goal without knowing the hard work it will take to achieve and accepting that burden you will burn out and fizzle quicker.
5. “Just Do It”
Uh huh, I said it. Don’t just sit there do it. If you want to start a business apply for a license online and start creating your website. If you want to write, write. If you want to star in a movie, go online and find auditions that are accepting self-tapes. Many cases of success come through trial and error. I’m not saying if you jump up and start right now your dreams will be achieved by morning, but I am sure you will have learned at least one lesson in that time span that you can take along on your journey.
