The National Hockey League has began canceling games among growing concerns of Omicron. News comes as President Biden also releases new information pertaining to his plans to combat the new variant of the Corona Virus (COVID-19.) While some cancellations in the league are due to members testing positive, most are out of an abundance of caution.

Officials say that everything should be back to normal in the league after the holiday, but some fans are concerned that we may be heading back into March 2020 territory. In the beginning of the spread of Corona Virus in early 2020, all sports leagues were shut down as the nation entered a forced quarantine period.

President Biden has taken a wait and see approach when announcing new measures to deploy resources for testing and vaccines and discussing the new variant.

He states.

“Now, we don’t know what’s going to happen from here. It looks there’s some evidence that in South Africa where a lot of this started, that is dropping off quickly too. We don’t know.” — Quote Sourced by The New York Post

While President Biden spent the majority of his most recent press conference criticizing the decisions of the unvaccinated and urging them to get there vaccines and boosters citing the previous presidents support for the vaccine, Biden also further revealed a concern that his COVID-19 task force has created. Many are wondering why there has been a shortage of appointments available, testing personnel, and tests in general. His handling of the virus is being criticized by some for not having a surplus of this needed material available from the beginning stating more citizens may have been exposed because of it. Biden stated that at-home tests are important and he plans to make them freely available for delivery online as part of his efforts to combat the pandemic.

The public is watching President Biden’s next moves closely as he implements these new measures some saying that he should have been more prepared for variants as they are common when handling viruses, and his administration could have expected an uptick of requests for testing during the holiday season. It is important that the public remains safe and we do not end up backsliding in our efforts. Recent announcements are concerning citizens based on lack of information and the appearance of supply chain issues from grocery store shelves to COVID-19 testing units.

As the National Hockey League dismisses themselves from this years Olympics, it leaves many curious if any other national team leaders will begin cancelling games leading us back to where we were just two years ago.
