The Red Devils were not in action on the opening weekend due to their participation in the latter stages of the Europa League last month. After a disappointing semi-final defeat to Sevilla, United will hope to make a good start to the new domestic campaign with a positive result against Palace.

This summer has been an interesting one for United with the Red Devils consistently linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho among others. As things stand, United only have one new signing going into Saturday’s game with Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax, with fans still hoping for more before the window closes in October.

But United chief executive Ed Woodward is happy with the business done so far, also reminding fans of the testing situation they are currently in.

“Disruption from the pandemic is continuing to create huge economic pressures from the top to the bottom of the football pyramid and, while we are fortunate to be in a more resilient position than most clubs, we are not immune from the impact,” Woodward told the United Review.

“Despite this, we are delighted to have brought in Donny van de Beek from Ajax, adding further quality to a midfield already strengthened by the recruitment of Bruno Fernandes in January.

“Both Donny and Bruno are players we had been tracking for some time and their signings reflect our long-term approach to blending high-quality recruits with homegrown talent to develop a squad capable of winning trophies playing attacking, entertaining football.
