Travel Light

Travel Light, Spread the Light, Be the Light @Yogi

Travel Light.

January 2, 2014

When we plan our travels, we try not to forget the basic stuff. How many times do we unpack and repack just to make sure that we do not forget anything? We sometimes make a list even before we start packing, and if we do forget something, we feel we did not plan well and promise to do better the next time. We spend too much time on planning and most of the time we end up not only with excess baggage but also with things that will never leave the luggage.

On the second day of the year, I want to travel light and I am not talking about my travel plans for the year but of the way I live my life. By travelling light, I mean not carrying the excess baggage from the past.

When I woke up this morning, true to the promise that I would start living the best possible life this year, I began to plan what the day should be like.

As I prepared my tea from @Yogi which not only gives me the best tea experience but on each tea bag one can find inspiring words, and today the tea bag has this to say

“Travel light, spread the light and be the light”

So while it is good to plan each day, if you do you, you become burdened by the plan and if the plan does not happen as planned, you feel obligated to make sure it happens the next day or the day after and that becomes your excess baggage which becomes heavier and heavier as more things that did not materialize are added.

Live each day with an empty baggage. While there are things that are best planned like making sure one is not late for an appointment, the less you plan your day, the more you can be ready for life’s surprises. With less baggage on you, you have more space for the good things life has to offer.

Imagine meeting up a good friend for lunch or coffee, with nothing on your baggage you have no expectations how the meeting will turn out. And if it does turn out well, you can put that experience inside your “life luggage for the day” and carry on experiencing the day. Choose only the good stuff to put in your daily “life luggage” as everything you put inside it has some weight and the more you put inside, the heavier it becomes.

At the end of the day, with only the good things inside your life baggage, take time to relieve the experience but do not cling on to them. Because if you do, you will be tempted to keep them and the good becomes your “excess baggage”. One should not differentiate between the good and the bad that happen each day, never cling to them. Remember if you do they become part of your life luggage.

This is how I will live my life each day, with nothing, with no expectations and an empty baggage. Now I am ready to travel light.
