Innovation is taking two things that already exist and putting them together in a new way. — Tom Freston
In the late 90s, the only monitoring tools that existed had been developed to monitor LANs, with a limited number of users in a tightly managed environment and limited resources. These were the days of 200MB hard drives and most monitoring tools at the time used a round-robin database tool (RRD) which was considered very efficient on disk-use but this efficiency came with a price, namely precision, especially over time.
Around the turn of the century, the next generation of infrastructure monitoring tools, such as Zabbix and Nagios, appeared on the market. They supported internet protocols and had web-based interfaces, but were limited to server performance metrics, still used RRD, weren’t scalable and often required the users to adapt to the tool rather than the tool adapting to the users.
A lot has changed since then, but unfortunately, monitoring tools haven’t kept up with the evolving needs of a globalized, internet-driven world. At LiveMon, we know first hand how frustrating it can be to work with these clunky, outdated solutions.
In 2012 our founder, Marc Pertron, was CTO at a successful start-up with a rapidly expanding infrastructure that cost 20,000€ a month. They had multiple terabytes of logs and needed a solution. Marc contacted a few companies who, much to his dismay, sent him offers for the mere cost of 40,000€ a month. Allow us to repeat that for emphasis: 40,000€ a month, twice the amount of their infrastructure costs at the time. To add insult to injury, they had no AI-technology in development and no predictive or root-cause analysis tools.
That’s when Marc decided to do something radical; you could that say he felt a calling of sorts. It was clear to him that the time to revolutionize log-management and infrastructure monitoring was at hand. He quit his job as CTO and made the conscious decision to throw every existing monitoring method out the window.
Marc spent two years working on his vision alone and then brought in a talented team to help him, including co-founder Julien Tartarin. The team spent the next three years on R&D. In the end, they created something that will change infrastructure monitoring forever; a solution that’s innovative, insanely fast and genuinely scalable.
LiveMon was born.
So who are we? We’re a motley crew of rebel innovators, developers and forward thinkers who pride ourselves in creating sui generis solutions. We believe that if you’re not changing the game, you’re not really playing it. We have a promise to make and some surprises in store for you, but firstly:
Allow us to introduce you to our log management solution.
It’s damn fast. Which means you don’t have to spend precious time waiting for your search results to appear. It allows you to search through terabytes in less than a second. A full-text search or a RegExp through two terabytes of logs takes less than a second. This provides you with immediate access to your data and empowers you to take immediate action when necessary.
We created lmgrep, a command line tool that makes full use of our search engine’s power. LiveMon also centralizes all of your logs instantaneously and offers unlimited data retention for log storage, so that you’re enabled to run analytics on your full data-set. And, since we love speed, we made sure that the installation on your side, takes only seconds.

As for the promise mentioned above, our vision is one of a truly hands-off monitoring experience for you. Soon we’ll launch more features so stay tuned!
Curious about how much this will cost you? We understand, which is why we decided from the outset, that our approach to pricing must also be a revolutionary act. So here’s our second promise to you; pricing is only $0.10 per GB. It’s fixed for life; there are no service charges or hidden costs.
In closing, allow us to mention one last thing; a person is always more than the sum of their parts. We know that the same holds true for companies.
At LiveMon we believe that how we behave is just as important as what we create.
This extends to how we work, live, and care for the planet. Most of our team work remotely, with the few who prefer an office environment, hanging out together and getting things done in our Parisian office. We contribute 1% of our revenue to onepercentfortheplanet.org, and we’re committed to values like inclusion and diversity; we’re a team of men and women, 20-somethings through 40-somethings, and come from all walks of life.
We look forward to helping you optimize your infrastructure monitoring, and we have lots of surprises in store for you. So stay tuned because this is just the beginning.
Welcome to the future.
