New Book By Guitar Manufacturer Rickenbacker Features Many Rock Stars

Rickenbacker is a guitar brand that was used by quite a number of rock groups, from The Beatles to The Byrds and on, with its sound described as ‘ringing’ and ‘chiming.’

On the 90th anniversary of the famous guitar model, Phantom Books will be publishing Rickenbacker Guitars — Out of the Frying Pan Into the Fireglo, on November 29, 2021. According to uDiscover site, the book authors, Martin and Paul Kelly have traveled the world to gather 350 original examples of the guitar that helped shape rock music.

The instruments, including all seven surviving Rickenbackers owned by The Beatles (who played them on their storied 1964 debut on The Ed Sullivan Show) have been beautifully photographed for this comprehensive study.

Besides The Beatles and The Byrds, Rickenbacker guitars were played by quite a number of bands, including Rush, Motörhead, The Jam, Fugazi, Creedence Clearwater Revival, R.E.M., The Stone Roses, The Who, and Yes.

Out of the Frying Pan Into the Fireglo tells the story of how the guitar was created and developed in California during the early 1930s by George Beauchamp and Adolph Rickenbacker.

The book also includes interviews with such Rickenbacker devotees as Roger McGuinn, Peter Buck, Susanna Hoffs, Johnny Marr, Mike Campbell, Geddy Lee, and Paul Weller, as well as existing commentaries from John Lennon, George Harrison, and Tom Petty.

Roger McGuinn said the following about the book: “The attention to detail is amazing! I’ve been playing Rickenbacker guitars for over 50 years and had heard some of the histories but learned so much more from Rickenbacker Guitars — Out of the Frying Pan Into the Fireglo. Thanks for such a wonderful history of my favorite guitar!”
