As the world grows increasingly complex we believe Satoshi’s vision of a “purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash” is more important than ever. That’s why our mission at Code is to make it compelling for the average person to control their own money.

We’ve made good progress so far, with the launch of Digital Paper Cash, Cash Links, and Micropayments. Many prominent industry leaders have said these are some of the most compelling experiences they’ve seen.

Despite all this progress one thing hasn’t sat well with us: Code has been closed source. This has required you to trust us on how we built Code, and how it works behind the scenes. When it comes to controlling your own money that isn’t good enough.

Instead we fully subscribe to Satoshi’s vision of a purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash:

  • We believe in self custody, so you don’t need to worry about your funds being taken or frozen.
  • We believe in fully distributed and decentralized cryptocurrencies, so you don’t need to rely on centralized entities to manage inflation or maintain a peg.
  • We believe in open source software, so you can see how something actually works behind the scenes.

This is why we made the decision to open source Code. Using the most permissive MIT License we have now open sourced the app, the server, and everything in between. Our hope is that this move will further accelerate trust, credibility, and momentum in the community. Now you can see how Code works for yourself, and help us move it forward.

We won’t claim to be perfect, so we are looking forward to your feedback, critiques, and ideas. We think you will see just how hard we’ve worked to make the underlying infrastructure as magical as the experience it enables.

After many years of hard work we now have all the foundational pieces we need to deliver on our mission of making it compelling for the average person to control their own money. We have Solana, a trustless blockchain that is inexpensive to use. We have Kin, a trustless cryptocurrency on Solana that is fully distributed and decentralized. And now we have Code, a trustless payment experience that makes it magical, simple, and safe to use Kin.

If this excites you we encourage you to download the iOS app, help us finish the Android app, and help us integrate Code micropayments into the web. Together we can deliver on the vision Satoshi started.
