CODEMOJI: HOW AUTOMATIC MARKING/GRADING SYSTEM MAKES LIFE EASIER FOR TEACHERS

Innovations in the educational sector have sought ways to improve the efficiency and quickness of grading. Such changes have led to the creation of automatic grading systems to reduce the difficulties of particular grading specialized courses. For example when teaching courses such as programming which involves poring through lines of code or having to execute programming files one after the other can be quite tedious. That’s why the ingenuity behind the automatic grading system of Codemoji is commendable as it has facilitated the grading of programming problems and assignments for teachers.

With the fast pace at which technology is growing, it comes as no surprise that automatic grading systems have been developed to for questions other than the traditional multi-choice questions. Research has revealed that automatic grading systems are highly beneficial to tutors as without it; it would take them too much time to grade extensive computer programming assignments. These automatic grading tools are not created with the intention of replacing human grading, but rather to assist tutors in quickly grading and understanding information.

Despite the seeming benefits of automatic grading, many experts in the educational sector are against it as they claim artificial intelligence does not compare with human grading. However, the benefits of automatic grading system like that employed at Codemoji is that it promotes immediate feedback for work done, allowing students to identify their errors and make the necessary corrections quickly. In a recent New York Times interview of John Markoff, president of Edx he said that students say they learn better with instant feedback.

At Codemoji, as students mature through each lesson, its automatic grading tool measures the mastery of programming skills through quizzes, puzzles and code analysis. There is also a map to measure each student’s progress report through each class, so you know who is working or who is falling behind. Beyond the automatic grading/marking system, class management is also made easier on the Codemoji website as teachers can quickly send lessons at a click and personalize each assignment. The grading system of Codemoji is easy to use with a simple template so teachers can quickly and easily get classes started immediately with ready-made lesson plans and built-in tutoring.

Automation is gradually becoming a part of education, and we are moving in the direction that promotes it. Some say it’s more practical and efficient while others consider the traditional method superior still. It may be that it’s just the regular indifference most feel to technology which is new and with time they would get used to it. Despite this, we must understand that artificial intelligence has not evolved enough to replace humans, especially as regards education. There will be several more controversial educational software’s shortly and not every will be accepted by all. The fear of technology coming to take over jobs is a valid concern but it should get in the way of developments. We all have to look at the benefits which these technologies would bring as the time spent by tutors to manually grade assignments can be used to improve certain parts of their course material.
