I’m Liz. I’m middle-aged so don’t look at my profile photo and think I look older than you — because there’s a good chance I am lol :)

I used to be an Accountant and used to be pretty good with computers (that was in the day when Lotus 123 and WordPerfect were the “in” apps!). But then my kids took over and then my brain laid dormant for a few years… Then they decided to voluntarily leave home. That’s when I was forced to work out why the VHS machine couldn’t take DVDs!!!

Now I volunteer at a Linc Library and teach adults in the computing foundations course. Oh how far I have come :)

I am interested in learning more about information technology in order to develop a prosthetic brain for myself. But seriously I want to learn more about how I.T. can help my increasingly problematic disorder I have — i.e. diminishing memory!!!

In the nineties I could see the potential for amazing things with I.T. but they haven’t come to fruition. I would like to pursue the accessibility side of web design to help people who weren’t that lucky to be born with skills to learn in the traditional education setting.

I could probably continue with this story but I should really get on with working out what the next task is.

But I’ll leave you all with this adage (I tell my students this one) — “If you have only 8 hours to chop down a tree — you should spend 6 hours sharpening your axe!!” The moral of the story is to get a good handle of what this course is about BEFORE jumping in. Because it’s pretty hard to chop down a tree with a blunt axe. Although, before you do go chopping down trees, please remember the environment!
