Why I’m Dating My Novel (An Ode to My Muse)

Patterns. We all create them in our lives. We repeat the same relationship with different people. We sabotage our careers the same way in different jobs. Or we constantly prioritize our careers to the point of ruining our health. Or maybe, we’re super-healthy and balanced and financially sound, but we’re sacrificing our creative spirit for it all.

If you’ve read my other posts, you know that I’m going through the process of revisiting a 25-year cache of journal entries — mostly Julia Cameron-inspired morning pages.

I haven’t read through all of these journals yet, but I did skim enough to put them in chronological order. And when I did that, I found a pattern.

I recently read my very first morning page entries from when I was twenty and was first introduced to her guide The Artist’s Way. But what I found after the morning pages was fascinating — notes and rough drafts for a one-woman show that I had completely forgotten I ever started.
