The people we met and the mountains we climbed were beyond anything that I could’ve dreamed of. The weather was cold, crisp, windy, rainy and sunny all in one day; it was perfect. The hikes were terribly hard and one thousand percent worth every step. The minor hiccups were just the joys of traveling and being in a foreign place with your best friends. The kitchens were small, but the wine paired well with the company. The 2-hour rock and gravel detour legitimized our road trip.

Now that I’m back at work, it’s hard to imagine that just a few weeks ago I was just in one of the most grand places I’ve ever been to… It’s such a stark difference of where you just were, the conversations you were having with the people you met across the world. You don’t talk about your “regular life.” You talk about the places you’ve been and the places you want to go. You start to wonder why this isn’t your “regular life..”

It’s always a real treat to be able to travel. Every year we spend the money we can put towards something like a house to go somewhere far, far away. Every trip, I come back with different realizations. During this trip, we were only in big cities in the beginning and the end. The rest of the time was spent in snowy forests, calm rivers, long dirt roads, and bigger-than-life-glaciers. The superficial things I think I need don’t matter as much (for now anyway).

I’d rather have the riches of an adventure any day…
