Spring 2016 Midterm

Unless you’ve been living under a rock in the tundra, you probably have witnessed some conflict in the music industry. CD sales are down drastically, recording studios are closing their doors, and even iTunes sales have slumped. So is the music industry DOA? Not exactly. The music industry is an industry that is constantly changing and evolving. Producers, managers, record execs, and artists are working around the clock to discover new ways to keep fans and gain revenue.

How Do We Make Money In This Industry?

Though the climate of the recording industry is changing every day, the rest of the music industry has managed to find ways to continue to gain fans and make money from their craft. Mediums such as social media and crowdfunding have been incredibly helpful for artists to gain exposure. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, and YouTube have been insanely popular for allowing artists to release content and connect with their fans and listeners. Crowdfunding is a relatively simple way to fund an artist’s music and it can help to get fans involved. It can also save artists money to record their albums on their own, and release them to the interwebs via an aggregate such as TuneCore.
