Hi, you don’t know anything about my background or where I come from, and you’ve made a lot of assumptions here. I left out many identifying details about this person and what was said so please do not assume you know everything about this situation by reading what I’ve written here.
You seem to think having privilege (and yup, I have it. I’m white. It’s a thing that I acknowledge.) and calling out bad behavior are mutually exclusive. They are not. If you care at all about disadvantaged and marginalized people getting into this field (which I care a lot about and actively work towards), you should care VERY much about this kind of behavior. It alienates people and is the opposite of inclusivity.
Pushing people to be better to each other makes everything better for everyone. It is all-inclusive. You appear to be against calling out bad behavior but somehow also want more marginalized people in STEM fields. It does not work that way.
