Proverbs 3:5

The Simplicity of What We Do Know is the Complexity of What They Don’t Know

This sentence came up in conversation after mom got home from a Christmas party. As with all witty things I say, it made me think.

The Gospel is simple to those of us in the Spirit.

I’ve heard the world shout at me, “Why do you believe in such a narrow way to heaven?!?!?!”

Because it’s that simple. The only way to heaven is through believing that Christ came to this earth, died on a cross, and rose again. Full stop.

To those not being drawn to the Gospel by the Spirit, it seems complex.

As I’ve heard a close friend say, “All religions are just different ways to heaven, right?”

Wrong.

Christianity is the only “religion” that doesn’t require works to be saved. People of the faith often hesitate to call it a religion, because it’s really a relationship with our Heavenly Father.

There are more complex truths throughout Scripture.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14 ESV

This verse pretty much sums it up, we can’t learn to discern it if the Holy Spirit doesn’t teach it.

Think about some skill that you’ve learned and almost mastered. Imagine yourself trying to teach someone to do it with the same level of skill that you’ve developed. They probably wouldn’t get it right on the first try. But that is the beauty of teaching.

Maybe that’s what God feels when we finally learn the lesson He’s been trying to teach us.

Don’t take my word for it, I’m not omniscient like He is.
