The problem isn’t that tRump has abandoned conservatism in favor of “big-government crony capitalism”, it’s that he’s stripped away the idea that conservatism has even been anything but.

It used to mean conservatives wanted to preserve what we had. Now they want to strip away anything that doesn’t meet their idealized vision of what the 1950s (or 1850s) should have been, without the inconveniences of reality, religious pluralism, diversity, and individual liberty.

TRump is the Id of the conservative movement, what you get after you strip out all of the crap about rugged individualism, God, motherhood, apple pie and lip service to the constitution.

Conservatives have always been about racial and religious homogeneity and authoritarianism. TRump is the logical extension of it.

I can’t help it if he has been shown the mirror and he doesn’t like what he sees.
