Blackberry Jam-Do You Suppose They Have it In Heaven?
Blackberry jam, please, with seeds. That is what she wanted with her toast. If a restaurant served it, she was thrilled. If not, she settled, but not without suggesting they carry blackberry jam. There was one restaurant she could count on having this jam, so she often asked to go to that place for breakfast.
Whenever a special occasion came about or just on a whim, when I would find blackberry jam with seeds, I would buy her a jar. Her church has a food pantry, and they often had blackberry jam with seeds. She would make it a point to get a jar.
Her finances were sparse, and she struggled more than a few times in her life. That did not stop her from getting her blackberry jam with seeds.
The last day I saw her was in August 2014. We took her to the airport for her trip to be with her daughter and family. In my heart, I felt this would be the last time we would see her. We enjoyed her favorite breakfast with her favorite blackberry jam with seeds on her toast. We kissed and hugged goodbye with sweetness in our hearts.
Time flew by. Too soon she was to leave this world for another place. She believed it would be a beautiful place and prepared her mind to leave. I like to believe one last time; she tasted blackberry jam with seeds on her toast. I like to believe she enjoyed this with a side of grits and butter, her other favorite comfort food. Her final day, she had, at least in my mind, the taste of those wonderful things. She left this world in comfort, knowing the sweetness of the next life would offer even more.
