The root of the issue is the algorithms and design choices that underlie all of this mess.

The algorithms present what it thinks viewers will like. Creators made quality content to reach the viewers.

Organizations and businesses are then regularly deselected from the algorithms, in order to generate a need to override the algorithm.

The content creators then override the algorithms by purchasing advertising to reach people they could formerly reach by providing quality content.

Now the content creators that fit a specific worldview are allowed to purchase overrides, but others are not.

What is needed is a platform that quality content can reach viewers and stand on its own merits. The business model for that in a capitalist system is unclear.

tldr; the quest for advertising dollars has killed the utility of social media platforms.
