Carb life

This weekend I was on a slightly less local food adventure in the ‘big smoke’! I was up in Brisbane enjoying some of what they had to offer. A good friend of mind had long been wanting me to come to the highly touted gnocchi gnocchi brothers for some delicious pillows of potato. The stars aligned and Saturday night was the occasion for such an event.

You cant not buy warm olives in winter.

I quite enjoyed this meal. They had a simple menu. 6 different Gnocchi dishes a short compliment of sides and desserts. Although we weren’t interested in dessert at this location, as you will soon discover further below. I opted for the simple tomato and black olive, while my friend went with a duck ragù. As soon as the meals arrived I had massive order envy. The ragù looked pretty amazing. My meal was appropriately balanced. The sauce was fresh and tangy, and the gnocchi nice and creamy. We also had some warmed olives which were quite nice. Really, the only let downs to this meal was the lack of a glass of red wine and that the bread they brought out to sop up the delicious sauce was a tad stale. Bad bread is something I don’t have a lot of patience for, but given everything else, I’m sure I’ll find a way to survive.

The order envy was real

This food adventure kept on giving, and we headed into the valley, to check out a place which I really love the concept of. A late night bakery. Chester street bakery brought the goods with a red velvet ice-cream cake. Not to mention a gruelling trial by cake cabinet while waiting to order, so many amazing choices sitting there being tempting. I quite like a place you can go and lay low at late in the evening, and this seemed not quite that, but on the way. The gold coast lacks in quiet evening haunts, where you can get a cup of coffee and blend in with the furniture, but I can hope that soon folks cotton onto this untapped niche, and make it happen. Purely so I can buy black coffee and cake at 11pm at a place which isn’t starbucks.

Let them eat cake.
