The boiler in my house is at least 40 years old. It still heats my home, though the company that made it went away at least 25 years ago. The radiators are equally ancient and keep working fine. I have no idea how old the outlets & switches & light fixtures are, but some of them are pretty ancient and work fine. The wiring is new, though, the cloth-insulated stuff having been replaced at least 10 years ago.
Two years is an insignificant blip in a house. I’m not buying anything unless it lasts at least as long as my water heater, which promises a mere 10–15 years. And seeing as I’ve sold a house twice now, I’m not buying anything I can’t point to and say will add value to the sale when I leave.
