An open letter to Donald Trump
Exit Strategy
Dear Mr. Trump,
If persist in your presidential campaign, and you lose the election to Mrs. Clinton, you will of course become a historical footnote. Maybe you go back to reality television, or maybe people will have grown tired of you as with Gov. Romney and those who went before you. You will not be seen has a winner after all; you will be an also-ran.
If you win the election this November and serve honorably thereafter — day after endless, exhausting, murderous day — as the 45th president of the United States of America, you may be measured against the historic legacies of Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt, Wilson, Jefferson, and the best men and women to come after you to the end of days. Or perhaps your name will be uttered instead with the likes of Buchanan, Harding, Pierce, and (Andrew) Johnson.
But there is an exit strategy that guarantees you a unique and glorious place in history.
Exit in a flourish just before the election in a televised press conference for the ages. Tell America that you used its broken campaign system to dupe a desperate populace into supporting a fictional message of fear and hate; tell them that American titans of industry build on optimism and trust and relationships. Show the world that your visionary leadership is positive, strong, and constructive. Start to disembowel once and for all the tattered parties, both full of the unprincipled men and women who at once belittle you and at the same time would use your name to reclaim power for themselves.
Exit, and from there take your rightfully earned place in history as the man who inspired an amendment to the Constitution to repair our corrupt election system once and for all.
Respectfully,
LM
