Blog spot #1: Organizational Communication

Alohaaa everybody,
My name is Yen. I’m from Vietnam. Communication is not my major, but I am really interested in this class COM 320 because of how professor made students in class interact with each other by using blog and twitter. I hope that we can understand each other more for what I will be sharing as well as what you are sharing in your blog.
This week, I have learned about the organizational communication. So, what is organization? Examples of organization are, such as: corporation, government, and charities/non-profits. The organizational communication is relevant. According to Pugh 1990, “An organizational structure delineates how task allocation, coordination, and supervision are focused towards the completion of organizational aims. During the discussion in class, I also learned that communication is when people exchange infomation, or message to each other.
In addtion, there are four great challenges of organizational communication: globalization, terrorism, climate change, and demographic. I was really interested in with the question was asked: “what types of things should or could be communicate regarding climate change? There are debating over policy and collaboration, and how to communicate the public of the “greening” of an organization. Furthermore, I also learned that the U.S has a population that is changing in several areas, such as: higher percentage of Hispanic, lower percentage of household with married couples, more residents in urban areas, and high percentage of people age 65+.

On the other hand, I was so impressed about the Thomas Friedman’s speech that was showing in class. In his discussion, he was actually focusing on politic, technology, and globalization. The book name “World is flat” that he talked about was very interesting to me. There were three main points that outstanding in the globalization. First, globalization 1.0 is by country. Second, globalization 2.0 is by company. And third, the globalization 3.0 is by individual. I really like his sentence: “whatever can be done, will be done”. He believes that if you have a good ideas, you can do that. It also reminds me that if I have a goal with good ideas, I will be successful!
