If only we could see!
We had a couple of very warm days in the Columbia River Gorge, but sadly it’s drama rather passed us by because of the smog. We were so disappointed. Some not very clear photos, including one of an osprey.

On the way from there to the Pacific coast we visited Frank Lloyd Wright’s Gordon House, designed when he was 90 and not built till after his death. This time we were allowed photos inside too. We loved it. It had been allowed to deteriorate by the people who bought it after the Gordons died and was about to be demolished when the FLW conservancy bought it, took it to pieces, transported it to its current site and rebuilt it. It was beautiful inside and out. Fantastic spaces.

We headed for the coast. The smog cleared, we were delighted… five miles later we hit the sea mist, so not only could we still not see clearly, the temperature dropped from 98 to 57. It was just like a summer’s day on the beach in UK, parents huddled in anoraks while children build sandcastles.
We saw Cannon Beach with its famous haystack rock, and other stunning stretches of beach. We have overnighted in Newport, but think we might backtrack a few miles before heading onwards, because in the end we saw absolutely nothing.
Some photos which show the promise of the Oregon coast’s beauty underneath the mist.

Unfortunately the weather forecast isn’t great. We feel America has started to conspire against us. Probably Trump’s fault.
