(for katrina, wherever she is)

she said you’re different, you’re different. she’s sorry. your sorry. we’re all so fucking sorry.
she said she’d love you forever. but sometimes 2 sided promises end with your feet at the edge of a cliff, deep belly breathing because its the only way you know how to feel alive anymore.
the sour taste of fear barely grazing your dry tongue as you watch the world spin beneath your dirty shoes. your long legs that were always just a bit too strong. if your body wasn’t the topic of conversation, where would all the laughter and concern live.
she said things you’ll never forget and she’ll never remember and then told you it was all a game. isn’t it all always a game. so tired of barely playing because we’re all just barely hanging on.
and what happens when it all goes sideways, pink fingertips holding tight as gravity yanks on the rest.

you always wanted to be the sweetness but the bitter won’t seem to let you go. she said she knew this would happen. you never believed until it was too late. you never believed because it didn’t feel right. you needed to believe in anything but that. i wish for once you’d have chosen yourself.

you shaved your head and ran away. last i heard you were living somewhere outside the local library. i remember…
