Rain, rain, please don’t go away?

Admit it. You love a good rain storm. There’s something about it that makes us all feel warm and cozy inside. But what about those treacherous looking clouds could possibly comfort the human spirit and relax us? Shouldn’t it do the opposite?

There’s something about the pitter-patter on the windows and the earth shaking thunder that calms us down. Something within those blinding flashes of lightning and howeling winds just puts our minds at ease. In this hectic world we live in aren’t we all just looking for a little time to relax and kick our feet up. Well rain gives us the perfect excuse.

We’re all guilty of giving oursleves the day off on a rainy day every now and again. It’s the perfect time to kick your feet up, watch Netflix or read a book. Bottom line is, when the rain is pouring outside we choose not to go out, we can’t do yard work, and there is no point in exercising — so there you have it, the perfect day to stay inside. Who wouldn’t love that?

Another, more scientific reason, that we all love the rain is the concept of “Pink noise”. Which is random noise that has equal energy per octave, which gives it more low frequency componants. Spoken in English it basically means, a constant noise that is at a low pitch. Noises like this naturally relax us and put our minds at peace. It is essentially the same as having a fan going in your room while you sleep.

So next time it rains, don’t feel guilty about watching a whole season of, “Orange Is the New Black”, in one day, because you’re not alone. And if somebody asks why you won’t leave your couch and it’s 1 o’clock in the afternoon, just blame it on the pink noise.

God Bless.
