Day 8: Zombie Pets and Test Driven Development
Today, we learned how to get really confused, really, really fast! lol… We worked with Test Driven Development functions and used a couple of nifty tools called Mocha and Chai. We also updated to the newest version of iTerm and added some sweet backgrounds to our terminals! Gotta love personalization (*See Above pic*)!
After that, it didn’t take long going into the day to get a bit frazzled with all of the screens and lines of JavaScript, which for a JavaScript newbie like myself can be quite baffling (*See Above pic again*). My head was spinning with numbers and variables and functions and constructors by lunchtime, but I didn’t get much of a break. David and I decided to try to help our buddy Dennis with his program that was understandably messed up from some issues in the beginning of the class. Thereby, we all spent our lunch hour in “The Batcave” —Our little corner of NSS that we have labeled “BATS ONLY” on the glass in marker.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to completely solve Dennis’s JS woes. He and I have both resolved to study JS significantly more independently and as a group, since the rest of this week will be almost exclusively devoted to JS practice. Maybe this can give me some time to jump on Code Academy and Code School, who knows? I’m not sure what Chyld has planned for us as far as the practice stuff goes. I am definitely getting the hang of it, ever so slowly, but it’s something.
Anyway, as far as the class exercises, I’m far from being able to walk someone through every last step of how we did what we did, but I think with a little more practice I could be at that level relatively soon. I just have to keep plugging away. The program we wrote today was called pet-sitter. It was a pretty normal class program overall, but when it came to the end, it got really interesting. Before, we were just adding and watching pets… By the end, we were having full-on pet cage fights with sloths and monkeys and bees… It was interesting to say the least… Oh, if only to have Chyld’s energy level… He has to be the most energetic teacher I’ve ever had. lol
Well, I am tired, and my head is still spinning so much that I think I will simply link to pet-sitter and call this day done. Hope all is well for everyone else in the class and whoever else reads this… Yes… Including you, Missy (My girlfriend reads my class blog, I don’t know why… I would think it would be super boring for her).
I REALLY WISH I WOULD STOP USING “:w” TO TRY TO SAVE STUFF WHEN I’M TYPING NORMALLY! DARN YOU VIM! DARN YOOOOUUUU!!!!!
