There are a lot of statements in this article I don’t agree with and some comments here have pointed some of them out quite well already. One of Uber’s greatest edge is that it not only grows aggressively in the number of drivers and riders by revealing potential demand, it also has enormous data to be able to make the marketplace more efficient. It distributes supply and demand based on time and geo patterns by having dynamic pricing, driver positioning, demand forecasting and much more. So even if there’s a pure peer-to-peer ride hailing app, it won’t be better than Uber because Uber is more intelligent in demand-supply distribution. Uber grew so fast for a reason. The value it created can be solely explained by just basic economics. Any business that eliminates existing market inefficiencies and creates more supply and demand can definitely become the leading trend in society.
