DRAGONS GIVES BACK!
Boracay Dragons Beginners Christmas Tournament
It sure is the season of giving, and as an Ultimate Frisbee team, the Boracay Dragons did it the way it should be. Giving back to the community of Boracay this holiday season, most especially to the younger population on the island.
Two months ago, the Dragons led by James Yap, Karen Cabrera, Boboy Famorcan and Jeffrey Rodriguez started teaching Frisbee to around thirty five children on the island (Both Karen and Buboy were the ones who worked on the 14 yrs. old and under kids. They did a phenomenal job on transforming these young bucks in to great ultimate athletes!) Patiently teaching them the proper way of throwing, defending and how to move around the field the right way. They were doing these drills everyday, keeping these kids away from harm. For the past two months, these young bloods became great friends and became part of the Dragons ever expanding family. I had the privilege to witness these kids play last weekend (December 19–21, 2014) when I was invited by Karen on the first ever Boracay Dragons Beginners Christmas Tournament.
When the players started playing on the beautiful beach of Boracay, I was in awe on how good these kids play. Perfect cuts, awesome defending, hucks after hucks, lay outs after lay outs. The way these kids handle the disc is beyond measure. Remember, they were only introduced to Ultimate Frisbee two months ago, and the way they play the game is like watching players who played ultimate for years. I was bombarded by the Boracay heat last weekend, but I can’t stop shooting the games because of how these amazing kids play. It feels like you are watching a Boracay Open Tournament for kids.

At their young age, they already have the competitive drive. The will to win the game. They sure do had fun goofing around like normal kids do, but when they are on the playing field, They’re the future kings and queens of beach ultimate. These kids can play. Seriously!

Boon Technical Clothing sponsored their shorts and jerseys during the tournament. They loved their Boon gears, so the kids made a Boon sandcastle right in front of the playing field to show how they appreciate what Mr. Aldwin Ibanez and the rest of team Boon gave them. They even mentioned Boon on the mic every time a player scored a point. “That score is brought to you by, Boon Technical Clothing!” It was definitely one of the classiest act that I’ve seen from a Clothing gear company. Big respect to you, Sir Aldwin! Thank you so much for your love and support for these kids!

This beginners tournament was also sponsored by amazing group of people and establishments on the island: Beach Bum Bar, Club Summer Place, Leas Resort, Casa Fiesta Resort, Boradise Beach House Resort, Kagawad Jason Talapian, Troy Talapian, King’s Cuisine, Nice Place World Food, Havaianas, and Yellow Cab.
Yellow Cab gave big boxes of pizzas for each teams to munch on after the tournament ended. The Mythical team and MVP’s in both 15 and above, 14 and below divisions were given Havaianas slippers as their trophies for being the most outstanding young players of the tournament. The kids were ecstatic knowing that they will be given all these stuff for free. No registration fees, no uniform fees, nothing! It’s all about giving. Making these young kids feel happy and loved are the best things that you can do this holiday season. Seeing a smile of every players faces…. You can’t beat that!

As I am writing this now, on a rainy Christmas eve here in Iloilo city, I believe that it’s not always about the money, or big photography contract deals. It’s all about making someone feel special. Letting them know that there are still some good people in this world. Ready to help out and share the love and graces, one kid at a time.
With that said, KUDOS to Boon Technical Clothing. Havaianas, Yellow Cab, the rest of the sponsors and most especially to the one and the only Boracay Dragons, for making these Beginners Tournament as one of my favorite tournament coverage this year. Giving back to the community who supported you for years is definitely inspiring. Congratulations and huge respect to each and everyone of you!
From the Lokal Perspective and Don Laczi Photography crew (That means Me, Myself and I),
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
Until then… TULOY LANG ANG PARTY!!!
