Mahendra Singh Dhoni, commonly known as MS Dhoni, is a former Indian international cricketer and one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket. He was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

Dhoni is primarily known for his exceptional wicket-keeping and batting skills. He made his debut for the Indian national cricket team in 2004 in an ODI match against Bangladesh. He quickly gained attention with his explosive batting style and impressive performances. In his early years, he played as a middle-order batsman but later became one of the best finishers in limited-overs cricket.

Dhoni’s most significant achievement came in 2007 when he was appointed as the captain of the Indian cricket team for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa. Under his leadership, India won the tournament, and Dhoni’s innovative captaincy and calm demeanor under pressure earned him immense praise.

In 2008, Dhoni took over as the captain of the Indian Test team. He led India to the number one ranking in Test cricket for the first time in history. Under his captaincy, India also won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, bringing home the prestigious trophy after a gap of 28 years. Dhoni played a crucial innings in the final, scoring an unbeaten 91 runs to guide India to victory.

Dhoni continued to lead the Indian team in limited-overs cricket until 2016 and stepped down as the captain in 2017. He remains one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket, having won numerous bilateral series, ICC tournaments, and other prestigious titles.

Apart from his captaincy skills, Dhoni is also known for his calm and composed nature on the field, earning him the nickname “Captain Cool.” His ability to read the game, make strategic decisions, and finish matches under pressure has made him a legendary figure in Indian cricket.

Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, bringing an end to an illustrious career spanning 16 years. He continues to be associated with cricket as he plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise.
