I was reminded yesterday of how saying “no” can be uncomfortable. It happened at work, a part of our lives where our default — or at least my default — is often to say yes.

A colleague had asked me if I could run a retrospective for his team. It was something I had done for the team in the past so it was a fair request. Except that, since that time, my role at the company has changed. Instead of being the resident agile coach and go-to person for retrospectives and workshops, I am now a full-time software developer. “But surely,” I see some of you thinking, “software developers can run retrospectives too?” …
