About Bethpage

The hamlet of Bethpage is located in the Town of Oyster Bay in Long Island’s Nassau County. Named after the Biblical place Bethphage and with a history of innovation in space and aviation, Bethpage is the unique home of 16,197 people.

The median household income is $107,240, and the median property value is $426,500. The economy of Bethpage employs 8,228 people. Bethpage was home to the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation from 1936 to 1994, which is why the hamlet is mentioned in the movie Apollo 13 (1995). These days, the economy is specialized around the industries of utilities, restaurants, construction, real estate, finance, and insurance. Many people work in education, retail, and healthcare as well.

While residents of Bethpage find that their community has everything they need, those looking to escape to the big city can access Manhattan via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR); the train ride takes 50 to 56 minutes and involves no transfers, linking Bethpage to Penn Station.

Depending on their neighborhood, the students of Bethpage are served by one of four school districts: Bethpage Union Free School District, Island Trees Union Free School District, Plainedge Union Free School District, or Hicksville Union Free School District. Each area offers something unique. BUFSD has a robust continuing education program where community members can learn new skills — from beach jewelry making to Reiki. Union Trees has a single model, with one elementary school serving students from kindergarten through first grade, and another serving students from second through fourth grade, allowing for more individualized attention. Plainedge encourages students to think about their future early, hosting a college fair for middle school students. Hicksville students have exceptional opportunities to learn foreign languages. In sixth grade, students typically take FLEX, which introduces them to the languages offered by the district: Latin, Spanish, Italian, French, Mandarin Chinese, and American Sign Language (ASL). After picking a language to study, advanced students can take college courses through St. John’s University.

Bethpage is home to a diverse array of restaurants to suit every taste. Options include:

● Campagne House: Gastropub featuring crafted cocktails
● Pappardelle’s Pizzeria and Restaurant: Create-your-own pizzas
● Popei’s Clam Bar: All-you-can-eat seafood
● The Orient Bethpage: Cantonese, including dim sum
● Thai Flavors Kitchen: Thai staples in a cozy atmosphere

If you’re looking for a venue to host a wedding or social event, Bethpage has outstanding options.
● The Sterling is an expansive event venue that offers both seated and buffet-style wedding packages, including packages for members of the Indian-American community. The Sterling also offers Sweet 16 packages and bar/bat mitzvah packages. The on-site catering team can cook a variety of cuisines to suit many tastes.
● The Heritage Club of Bethpage is a historical and well-regarded event venue overlooking the Bethpage Black Golf Course. Boasting a bright black and white checkered floor in one area, the large place is beautiful and can accommodate a reception of more than 750 people or a dinner of up to 500 people. Only one wedding reception is held at a time, meaning that the wedding party and guests receive individualized attention from the in-house party planner. Guests can feast on Continental cuisine, including kosher options, from the in-house catering team. For an additional fee, one can also have the wedding ceremony at the venue, making the Heritage Club an outstanding option for a memorable evening.

Within Bethpage’s 2.62 square miles, unique recreation opportunities abound. One standout is the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, which Long Island Magazine voted the “Best Ice Skating Center” on Long Island. This indoor rink is located in Bethpage Community Park and is open for year-round enjoyment. Another unique opportunity is Bethpage Polo at the Park, something for which Bethpage is famous. Every Sunday from early June to mid-October, spectators take their picnics and flock to Bethpage Polo at the Park to see “the sport of kings” in action. Majestic ponies gallop over the polo fields at Bethpage State Park during a polo match. Want to get out on the ground? The Bethpage Polo Club also offers polo lessons to teenagers and adults.

Over the years, Bethpage has been home to many notable people, including:
