Why This Radical Leftist is Disillusioned by Leftist Culture

People are fed up with wedge issues and identity politics.

Based on the number of comments below, you touched on something that reasonates with a lot of people on Medium. There are so many examples of this in the media:

  • One woman writes 1500 words on why men should call themselves feminist allies instead of feminists.
  • A man writes “Go Fuck Yourself Bernie,” conflating Sanders’ questioning Hillary’s sudden devotion to Obama right before the South Carolina primary as evidence that Sanders is “reducing Obama to the President that the Blacks like.”
  • Albright and Steinem marginalize young feminists for supporting Sanders
  • Another man attacks Taylor Swift for her empowered Grammy Acceptance speech as being “the most clueless and unfeeling thing to do” because “the wages of being black and awesome… is hard and clearly wearing at Kanye.” (In response to Kanye’s recorded lyric “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that bitch famous” and the infamous VMA rant. Are you f*cking kidding me?)
  • Universities banning offensive Halloween costumes
  • Connecticut Schools bans Halloween altogether to avoid offending Muslims and Christians who do not celebrate a silly kid’s tradition

While you make a lot of good point about the people you serve, that doesn’t change the fact that you are validating the media perpetuated false equivalency that the left is just as bad as the right. The media doesn’t care who wins, as long as that candidate is a good corporatist.

For the people you serve, the difference between a Democratic president and a Republican president will be night and day. If they have any kind of health care through the ACA’s medicaid expansion, it will be gone as soon as President Cruz is inaugurated.

If you care about a woman’s right to choose, same sex marriage, or any chance at equal pay for equal work, you can kiss those things goodbye under a President Rubio.

And if you think liberal trends of PC are like fascism, get ready for a taste of real fascism when president Trump starts rounding up DACA children and closing the border to Muslims.

My question to you and everyone who has commented on your post (especially millennials): will you exercise your political power, both at the polls, and as a campaign worker this year? Or just make comments on Medium and think you’ve done your civic duty?
