“Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”

The above quote from Jack Kerouac is what motivates this creative millennial to put on his backpack, close the door behind him and set foot in the outdoors. We’re excited to have Giliam as our second travel ambassador for this summer ☀️!

About Giliam

We had the pleasure to chat with Giliam and would love to share some cool stuff about him with you!

Q: Tell us a bit more about yourself?

“My name is Giliam Ganzevles (23), a Dutch Design Researcher from the Netherlands, currently residing in Belgium, studying interaction design. I’m interested in all things design related and often go to exhibitions or lectures dealing with contemporary critical graphic design. I’m also quite fascinated by digital currencies; how they work and how they can provide a global value. Besides design and tech I love traveling, especially without a set itinerary. I’ve already seen quite some cool places but I remain intrigued by the beauty of our planet. As a big fan of an active lifestyle, mountain biking and climbing are one of my favorite activities. Wherever I go I love to buy coffee beans to take home, as a tasty memory and a physical reminder of the places where I’ve been.”

Q: Why do you love traveling?

“For me traveling is about experiencing new places and meeting new people. I don’t really care about must-see tourist attractions to be honest. I am more focused on unveiling unexplored places with a rough edge to them. Traveling gives me a chance to broaden my horizons and get ideas for new projects. There has to be an input to be able to produce meaningful output. It also provides an opportunity to get out of the daily routine, something one can easily slip into. Thanks to globalization and technology it’s possible to travel low budget while actually experiencing more!”

Q: What’s your favorite travel destination?

“My favorite travel destination changes all the time 😁. I can write glowing reviews about destinations where I’ve already been. Beijing, China for the culture, food and city life. Iceland for its amazing nature. The United States for the people I’ve met, the American Culture, diversity and inspiration. My favorite travel destination is the one where I’ll be next.”

Q: What’s your most memorable travel memory to date?

“A memory I’d like to share is about my time in the United States. I applied for a work-away experience, so I ended up working at this small farm in Colorado. I rented a mountain bike and set out to make a trip to the end of a valley with a beautiful name: Paradox Valley. It is named Paradox Valley because the river crosses the valley, instead of following it. It was a full day of mountain biking on one of the more isolated roads of Colorado. At most two or three cars passed me that day. The experience of being alone on the bike, the sun shining above you and your goal miles ahead and the road meandering through the mountains… it’s a memory I won’t forget.”

Q: What are your travel plans this summer?

“Me and three friends are road tripping through Eastern Europe. We have no set goal, just a direction. We’ll find our way through recommendations, wrong exits and intuition.”

Q: Why do you ❤️ Look?

“Look is a great way to discover and share your ‘right here-right now’. One of the coolest things is that you get a sneak preview of places where people are hanging out. This ties in with my desire to see not only top tourist places, but actual places where people live. Look inspires to explore new places 🌍.”

Q: Super cool! How can we follow you?

“Well, I’ll be sharing my travels with the Look app of course 😎! So make sure to grab the app (if you haven’t already) and request some streams or check out the streams in the popular tab! I’m also quite active on Instagram and I do some occasional blogging on Medium. Enough opportunities for us to meet!”
