In my experience classical Hollywood screen writing formats are so predictable and boring. I often avoid Hollywood films for that reason. It could also be the great role for the lead actor that in some way is killing the art form. We forget in the past audiences were offered two films at a sitting, today it is one. We do not have the contrast of an A and B movie. Many of the old films were awful, but we loved them.
I believe audiences have to be a bit roughed up by the story and be challenged. Arts films can often be much more interesting and fill the void.
