Web Development — Week 0
I want to begin by saying I have failed so many times before. I know the frustration of development and the loss you can feel when learning to develop.
A quick search online will have a mix of reviews on how to start your development career. Often times the “advice” that others give is in an attempt to sell something to you. Some say college is the only way to do it; others say college is a waste of time. There are those who are a mix of the two.
Because of all this frustration and confusion, I have been down so many roads trying to find the best way to learn web development. Searching for advice on the web has only led to doubt and frustration.
Since I am starting over (again), I decided I will focus my efforts once more. This time, I want to set a few rules for myself:
First, I will focus on freeCodeCamp! I have read so many success stories on how FCC has started their career and provided the information they needed to get an entry level position in development. I will finish FCC!
Second, I will code everyday. Even if it is only for a half hour, I need to make this a habit. Learning is a constant in development. I should get used to it before happy distractions (kids, pets, and vacations; to name a few).
Third, I will document what I am learning on posts in Medium. I feel that a downfall of learning through FCC is blazing through the lessons and not taking time to really let the information stick. Because of this, I will be using Medium to document what I have been working on and what I will be doing for the next coming week. Who knows, maybe I could even help someone learn more on a topic by simply talking through what I have been doing!
Fourth, I will use Git and GitHub. This is very important. I don’t want my projects to only exist on CodePen. I want to have what I am doing also exist locally on my machine and on GitHub. This will only continue to reinforce what I am learning.
This is certainly not a cure all method to get into development. This is my promise to myself to work everyday on what I truly want to do; develop! Follow along with me if you like! It will probably seem more of a raving of a mad man but it will be the explanations of what I struggle with and my grind through we development!
