alpha2omega’s definition of learning, in only 6 words. Learning towards a better world.

Can 6 words help us learn?

Yes, proven! And this is how we prove it.

Learning Defined

Learning is the process of acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviours, skills, values, or preferences. The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals, and some machines; there is also evidence for some kind of learning in some plants.

How do we redefine learning?

Learning is to “focus on similarities first, then differences(6 words). Let me say it again, to learn anything and everything you need to “focus on similarities first, then differences”; this is the key to any learning.

For example, when we learn to calculate “4 times 2”, we firstly focus on its similarities with 2+2+2+2, then its differences in the way we communicate it (4*2 instead of 2+2+2+2).

How do we prove it?

We can simply prove this by contradiction. Let’s assume if learning is NOT “focus on similarities first, then differences” we could not use it to “acquire new, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviours, skills, values, or preferences”.

Yet we can use it to acquire new, or modifying existing, knowledge. Yet, we can use it to redefine Darwin’s theory of evolution (from his book On the Origin of Species, in 1859) as described here.

Therefore, our initial assumption — learning is NOT “focus on similarities first, then differences” — must be false.

Hence, learning is to “focus on similarities first, then differences”!
