The Turing test is about whether a machine can fool you into thinking it’s human, but the test subject starts off not knowing they are interacting with a machine.

The Ex Machina version of it is more challenging. The test subject knows they are interacting with a machine, so the performance by the machine needs to be far more compelling in order to convince them its human.
