In my case, I don’t just text this way with women. I text this way with everyone, so it’s not “an attempt to come across as chill”.
Over text it’s really hard to communicate tone effectively, because so much of it is based on voice and non-verbal signals which obviously can’t be transcribed via text easily.
I sprinkle “ahaha” and “lol” over my texts to contrast the abrupt tone of text messages as your friend pointed out. That way, when I stop using them all together the interlocutor knows it’s as if I was changing tone to be more serious about the conversation.
Are you saying this makes some women uncomfortable?
