The issue of timing is one of the most significant elements in this piece. With time, we mature, we grow in insights and understanding… we learn. With time, new challenges, opportunities, technologies and market needs emerge. There’s often a convergence point between what happens with us and what happens around us that facilitates a positive cycling upwards. That convergence point makes seemingly ‘older’ things more relevant for the time now. When the timing is right, what seemed to fail in a previous iteration becomes a success.

When I think about the first ‘tablet’ that Microsoft made over a decade ago, the timing was wrong. Later on Apple created the iPad and all the elements of portability, small chips, touchscreens and modern design aesthetics all made for a successful new implementation (of an ‘old’ idea).
