Why Traditional School is a Dangerous Place for Black Boys
Lori Gold Patterson

@BettyLBrennan I agree that boys in 5th grade often show lack of attention or are slower to process and communicate than the girls. What is not typical across races, though, is this resulting in the child being ostracized or villain-ized because of it. It is more typical that a white boy demonstrating disruptive behavior would be coined “slower to mature” and be given the time to mature. In comparison, black boys are responded to with disdain and thought to be disruptive, not ready to learn, and less smart.
