Blood in the Streets

Even as a young newlywed if 1983, buying groceries for myself and my new husband in a city where food stamps were needed and used by many families, I could not believe that feminine hygiene products were not permitted to be purchased with food stamps. These are necessary products! There is no “optional” here. I watched people use their food stamps on expensive, name brand cheeses, cereals, meats, etc. but the women could not purchase tampons or pads. Unbelievable to me. This was an exceptional article focusing on a real and urgent concern.
