I agree that it is a switch in thinking to call yourself an author vs a writer. I have been a writer my entire life, well since I wrote my first poem when I was 8 years old. I always felt I was a writer until I was paid for my first piece, then I was an author. I don’t think that feeling of being a fraud ever goes away completely. As in, what am I doing? Does anyone really care about what Iam writing? or my personal favorite…Who wrote this crap? oh, I did…..

I disagree with not talking about your WIP. True protecting the story and the details is smart, but giving a little tease while talking about it can spark just enough curiosity in to a conversation to have that person you are telling go read your work. It happens to me all the time. It is a tight rope walk of sharing just enough and not too much.
