20 of the BEST Sci-Fi Films from the Last 20 Years
Mandy Chew

Why am I not surprised that you would choose timey-wimey movies among your favorites? Cheers. I love each and every one of them.

I’m surprised you left out “Alien.” That, to my knowledge, is the first science fiction major motion picture with a female protagonist. Ripley kicked ass! Come to think of it, that film also had an MF of a female antagonist too — the Alien. I could be wrong about that, but I do think the creature is a female of the species. Then again, I could just be confusing that with the fact that Ripley says, “Get away from her you bitch!” during the epic battle at the end of the sequel. Anyway, I loved the first movie.

Regarding “Inception,” I loved that movie right up to the last 90 seconds. As a matter of fact, I can say without a doubt, that many of the people who were sitting in the theater with me that afternoon shared my frustration. It was that damn spinning coin. I shouted, “NO!” Someone else shouted, “SHIT!” And lots of others just groaned. I didn’t want it to end that way. I don’t think any of us did that day.

By the way, I don’t know why you don’t like Tom Cruise movies. I’ve enjoyed every one of his movies so far, especially his Science Fiction pieces. Of course, “Minority Report” is a particular favorite of mine but that’s because it’s based on a Philip Dick novel. I love Dick. (insert dirty giggles here.)
