We Drink Ch’ti [Shitty] Beer in France

It’s not actually shitty. It’s pretty tasty, but we get a kick out of the name.

It’s fun trying new food and new drinks when you’re on vacation in an unfamiliar place or when you’re living in a foreign country.

Over the past year, we must have spent hours in the wine and beer section of our local grocery store L. Eleclerc.

We tried to read the labels in French when we first arrived, but that was a fruitless task, so we just bought what looked good — choosing either by the pretty label or by the words that were similar enough to English that we could understand.

We saw Ch’ti beer on the shelf and pronounced the name in our American way, laughed our heads off and said, “We have to try shitty beer!”

And the shitty beer tastes good!

I love France. I really do. There are things that are hard about living here of course, but there are amazing things too.

I’m grateful to have the opportunity to live in a foreign country and I’m really grateful to give my kids the gift of speaking two languages fluently AND to give them the chance to go to college for cheap!
