Searching for the best Sandwich in Atlanta

This summer, we sought to take on a daunting challenge. Binge the entire series of Friends. After a few weeks, multiple nights in and cancelled plans, we’d finally reached the end. Though we felt accomplished to cram 10 years of 90’s sitcom into just a few lazy summer weeks, we also felt hungry… for sandwiches (thanks Joey).

So that led us to our second daunting challenge of the summer: finding the best sandwich in Atlanta. We combined a couple lists from Atlanta Mag and Eater to help guide our search, and then we ate, a lot. Here’s our top selections:

5. Pastrami Sandwich — The General Muir

The General Muir — Decatur

Though you have the option to get this item with chopped liver, we decided to go with the classic pastrami sandwich from General Muir. Definitely the best place to get deli-style pastrami in the city, we enjoyed this stop on our journey. However, we prefer the brunch version with egg.

4. Pulled Lamb Bahn-mi — Bread & Butterfly

Bread & Butterfly — Inman Park

We were planning on sticking to our lists, but when we saw our favorite brunch spot had a special menu item, we had to add it to the itinerary. The traditional zesty asian elements of the bahn-mi mixed with the savory lamb made for a really interesting dish. The paired skillet potatoes was the perfect finishing touch.

Definitely worth keeping an eye out for if you happen to be around the Inman park neighborhood next summer.

3. ‘Shroom Shire Cheesesteak — Fred’s Meat & Bread

Fred’s Meat & Bread — Midtown

We usually try to keep things on the healthy (ish) side, but we couldn’t resist this one. Fred’s take on the cheesesteak is a juicy and flavorful itis-inducing sandwhich that will have you ready for a nice nap after you finish off the side of equally delicious garlic fries.

If you don’t want to take on this many calories, Fred’s has a bunch of different sandwiches.

2. Shrimp Po’boy — Star Provisions

Star Provisions–West Midtown

Choosing between our top two favorites is really difficult, but for #2, were going with the Shrimp Po’boy from one of the best sandwich joints in the A: Star Provisions.

We had to do some running around for this one, as the new Ellsworth Industrial location only serves this gem at limited times, but the extra work was totally worth it. Grab this dish or any one of Star Provisions great sandwiches from the original Westside Provisions District location anytime. Pro tip: Great lunch spot.

1. Lobster Roll —Bocado

Bocado — West Midtown

Not only was this the best lobster roll we’ve had in Atlanta, but also the presentation was amazing. Unlike most lobster rolls, the lobster itself was incredible, not slathered in butter and sauce. And the tomato bisque and salad take the dish to the next level.
