Because the Wiz are much worse than the Cavs and Dubs, are about to be capped-out after Otto gets the max, have given away nearly all their second-rounders and now have given away another first-rounder. Those draft picks are kinda useful when you’re looking to round-out your roster with very little cap-room manoeuvrability, no franchise history of attracting quality free agents, and not a good enough roster to be a ring-chaser destination.

It’s bizarre to make a win-now move when you’re not nearly good enough to win-now if your opposition’s healthy. It makes more sense to keep your draft picks and wait a couple of years, once LeBron’s gone into decline and the Wizards’ core’s in its prime, before going into win-now mode.
