In review: Pallab Sarker releases ‘Not Gonna Fall In Love With You’
It’s difficult to stand out from the crowd in a world full of so-called ‘singer-songwriters’, but Walthamstow’s Pallab Sarker has the unique history of working for the last labour government as a press advisor. Mad right? An unusual career change to say the least, but having found success on college radio across the pond in the US, Pallab earned himself a record deal on the back of the release of ‘Morning In Brixton’, and now he’s back with the equally wistful ‘Not Gonna Fall In Love With You’, accompanied by a new video too.
Delicately strummed acoustic combines with a simple, but cleverly crafted piano line and Pallab’s soft, endearing vocals, before a sprinkling of glockenspiel adds a bit of magic during the chorus.
It’s simple song writing, not trying to be anything that it’s not or overly-ambitious but sometimes this is exactly what makes a great song: a basic structure embellished with a believable and relatable story of trying to suppress your feelings towards someone.
It’s romantic, it’s easy-listening, it’s infectiously catchy and naggingly familiar, yet fresh at the same time. Structurally, ‘Not Gonna Fall in Love With You’ echoes 50’s pop-rock origins, but it transitions into the modern day with quality production and a sound that you can’t quite pin down or compare to anyone else in particular.
Having cemented himself on the indie-acoustic scene with the beautiful folky ballad ‘Morning in Brixton’, Pallab is continuing to show just what he can do with the new track and it would seem there is plenty more to come from this late-bloomer of a songwriter with the upcoming album Grey Day.
You can watch the recently released video for ‘Not Gonna Fall In Love With You’ below. Ukrainian born actress and model, Jenny Hansel, stars as the video’s love interest, who is best known for appearing in 2017’s short film Despondency. Jenny has also featured as a catwalk model at fashion shows for La Marche and Dollar Creme.
