The Management of Life Essential Products in Supply Chains — a Serious Issue

Each year the worlds population is increasing by at least 80 million people, naturally this augments the demand for life essential products of food and medicine. As we evolve, it only makes sense that the mechanisms used to manage the supply and distribution of these products evolve also.

When it comes to food and medicine the consequence of error and mishandling can be a matter of life and death. In the US over 200,000 people are dying every year from counterfeit medicine. This is a devastating number and is now avoidable by implementing new technologies that are becoming available.

The Ultimate Supply Chain Makeover

The utilisation of data immutability and shared-decentralized records of network transactions, mean that blockchain technology and supply chains go together like cheese and wine, (it’s a dream team). Ambrosus is a blockchain solution for supply chains that has taken this concept to another level, with the supplementary addition of IoT and sensor technology.

Sensors are attached to individual products or batches which interact with the Ambrosus blockchain network (AMB-NET) via IoT technology in real-time. Logistical and environmental data is transmitted to provide information about the products as it travels through the supply chain.

This information includes not only the basic data like GPS, time and logistics, but additional factors which may affect a perishable items quality and safety to consume.

Additionally, Ambrosus provide a number of different types of sensors with the ability to measure everything from the temperature, oxygen, changes in weight and detection of movement, UV light exposure, humidity, pH levels and even DNA composure and microbiological contamination.

The combination of IoT and blockchain together within the Ambrosus systems provides significant improvements upon, not only traditional supply chain networks, but also other blockchain supply chain projects which miss the benefits of integrating IoT sensor technology.

Minimising Risks and Empowering Global Economy

The risks associated with manufacturing vast amounts of food and medicine can be dramatically decreased by leveraging this new source of insight gained by use of the sensor technology, provided by Ambrosus. Current methods of manually testing products for human consumption is an expensive and wasteful process. Many warehouses are built solely for the purpose of storing sample food items, so that they can be tested by human inspectors. This tested sample food is then discarded, it’s a terrible uneconomical waste.

With the Ambrosus network we can have a greater sense of trust in the food and medicine we consume, in which we must depend on to enrich and strengthen our bodies. Furthermore, we can feel content in the fact we are supporting global economics and the ethical and sustainable management of life essential products.
